3-Axis Gimbal Camera

Visual Inertial Odometry (VIO)
The Visual Inertial Odometry (VIO) paired with the new positioning algorithm has doubled precision positioning in the Mavic Air. VIO calculated speed and altitude in real-time to locate it. The Mavic Air makes dual-camera altitute measurements while hovering or flying at any speed. The visual positioning system works from 0.5 to 30 meters, allowing it to hover more accurately indoors and heling it to respond quickly to complex environments with fine tuned control stick movement.
3D Map Building Technology
With the Mavic Air's extremely advanced sensing system, it can always locate itself with accuracy and precision. It processes data from seven individual cameras that are located on the front, bottom, and rear. These cameras sit alongside high tech infrared sensors and IMU. The Mavic Air can construct a 3D map by sensing it's environment in real-time.
Advanced Pilot Assistance Systems (APAS)
DJI has develped APAS after doing extensive research on flight path calculation. APAS will determine an appropriate flight path to automatically avoid obstacles.
Multiple Redundancies for Optimal Performance
The FlightAutonomy 2.0 features more redundant modules that increase safety during flight. The Vision Compass assists the navigation system and estimates flight direction when the compass experiences any interference. If only one vision system (front, bottom, rear) is functioning normally, the aircraft will successfully position itself with no errors. Two sets of sensor fusion algorithms are based on two independent hardware platforms, allowing the aircraft to effortlessly switch to the other in the event of an error. This provides normal functionality during every flight.

New and Improved Return to Home (RTH) Feature
The Mavic Air will fly back to you intact and unscathed with a new and improved Return to Home feature that guarantees safe travel. By recording it's real-time flight path, the Mavic Air will automatically fly in the direction of it's take-off point in the event of a signal loss, bypassing signal obstructions and reconnecting with the controller. When an obstacle is detected, it will calculate the best course of action around the obstruction according to it's current altitude. When landing, the Mavic Air will match images of the ground to images captured during take-off to ensure accuracy. When landing automatically, it will scan the landing area in real-time so it can warn the pilot if there are any remaining obstructions such as trees, people, water ect. If it detects anything, it will safely hover overhead to prevent a collision.
